Arrest made in Human Trafficking Investigation, Man faces 6 charges, Photograph Released

On Sunday, September 28, 2014, the Toronto Police Service's Human Trafficking Enforcement Team began an investigation into a Human Trafficking occurrence.

It is alleged that:

- an 18-year-old woman was forced to work as an exotic dancer and sex trade worker over a two week period

- she was coerced with threats into the sex trade

- she travelled between Ottawa and Toronto for the purpose of working in the sex trade

- she was forced into turning over her earnings to the accused

On Sunday, September 28, 2014, at 7:30 p.m., Ashor Anwia, 20, of Ottawa, was arrested.

He has been charged with the following:

1) Trafficking in persons by recruiting
2) Material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons
3) Exercise control
4) Procure person to become a prostitute
5) Forcible confinement
6) Fail to comply Probation

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East at 10 a.m.

Police are concerned there may be more victims.
