The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a death investigation, now Homicide #29/2014.
On Friday, January 3, 2014, at approximately 9 a.m., police were called by a then-17-year-old babysitter, to the Wellesley Street East/Bleecker Street area for a child not breathing.
Once on scene, police located a girl, with obvious injuries, without vital signs. She was pronounced at the scene.
She has been identified as Jazara Garrison-Downey, 32 months old. A photo will be released at a later time.
A post-mortem concluded her cause of death to be the result of multiple recent injuries.
On Thursday, September 4, 2014, investigators arrested the now-18-year-old babysitter, of Toronto.
She is charged with:
1) Second-Degree murder
She was scheduled to appear in court at 311 Jarvis Street, on Friday, September 5, 2014.
She cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
