From Thursday, August 7, 2014, to Wednesday, August 27, 2014, a number of Hydro One Transformer Stations were broken into. All seven break-ins occurred within 41 Division.
On Wednesday, August 27, 2014, officers arrested Garry Harold Matchim, 31, of Toronto.
It is alleged that:
- he gained entry to these Hydro One compounds by cutting holes in the fencing surrounding the buildings
- he removed a quantity of copper wire
- in doing so, he caused extensive damage and loss
He has been charged with the following offences:
1) seven counts of Break-and-Enter
2) seven counts of Possession of Break-in Instruments
He is scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on Friday, August 28, 2014, 10 a.m.
The Toronto Police Service would like to remind the public that serious injury or death can result if anyone enters these Hydro One transformer stations.
