On Monday, August 25, 2014, at 4 p.m., a pair of 42 Division officers who saved the life of a man attempting to commit suicide by jumping from a Scarborough bridge will be available for interviews on the bridge on Tapscott Road, north of McLevin Avenue.

On Friday, August 22, 2014, at around 1 p.m., a woman driving on Tapscott Road, north of McLevin Avenue, noticed a man standing on the outside of a railing to a rail overpass. She stopped to talk to the man but he was unresponsive.

The concerned citizen drove a short distance away and phoned police, staying on the line to update the police emergency dispatcher.

Malvern Neighbourhood Officers Constables Gurminder Minhas and Alison Burns responded to the call and spoke to the distraught man, who was threatening to end his life. Burns engaged the man in conversation and distracted him while Minhas was able to grab the man from behind, under his arms, and pull the 230-pound man back over the railing to safety.

The man was then taken to hospital.

Constables Minhas and Burns will be available to the media at the bridge, Tapscottf Road, north of McLevin Avenue, at 4 p.m.
