On Monday, June 22, 2014, police arrested a man in connection with a series of random, unprovoked assaults known and popularized on social media as the knock-out game.
It is alleged that:
- on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, a man was waiting for a bus at Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue, when an unknown man walked up and punched him twice in the face.
- shortly after, the unknown man went south on Weston Road and approached another man at a bus stop
- this man was punched in the head by the unknown man and knocked unconscious.
- on Thursday, June 19, 2014, a third man was walking on Weston Road, near Eglinton Avenue West
- the unknown man ran up from behind and elbowed the man in the head, knocking him to the ground.
- on Sunday, June 22, 2014, the unknown man was seen on security cameras stealing from a convenience store in the Jane Street and Weston Road area.
- the unknown man is known to police and was identified by the images on the security camera.
On Monday, June 23, 2014, Alvin Hives, 32, of no fixed address, was charged with:
1) Theft Over $5,000
2) Assault resist arrest
3) Assault Police
4) five counts of Assault
He was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 10 a.m., courtroom 206.
Police believe there may be more victims.
