On Wednesday, June 18, 2014, the London Police Service and the Toronto Police Service commenced a joint investigation.
It is alleged that:
- a 22 year-old woman was recruited and procured to become a prostitute
- she was taken to a hotel in Toronto and was coerced into prostitution
On Saturday, June 21, 2014, Shaun Butler, 35, of Toronto, was charged with:
1) Procuring a Person to be a Prostitute
2) Exercise Control
3) Trafficking in Persons
4) Trafficking in Persons material benefit
5) Careless Use of Firearm
6) Uttering a Death Threat X3
7) Extortion
8) Assault X2
9) Aggravated assault
10) Fail to Comply Probation
He is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Old City Hall Court.
Police are concerned there may be more victims.
