On Thursday, June 19, 2014, at approximately 1:15 a.m., police responded to the Avenue Road/Brookdale Avenue area for a shooting.
It is alleged that:
- several men ambushed an armoured truck owned and operated by Garda World (although still branded as former G4S)
- gunfire was exchanged between the guards and the men
- a 37-year-old guard was shot several times
- he was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries
- the men fled but were arrested a short time later
- a semi-automatic handgun was seized
It is further alleged that:
- on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the same men attempted to rob a Garda World armoured truck, also branded as former G4S, in the Bathurst Street/Lawrence Avenue West area
Jaden Beckford, 18, of no fixed address; Nicholas Cross, 18, of Toronto; and Rashid Clarke, 18, of no fixed address, are each charged with:
1) two counts of Armed Robbery
2) Careless use of Firearm
3) Pointing a Firearm
4) Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
5) Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
6) Possession of a Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
7) two counts of Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
8) two counts of Disguise with Intent
9) Attempt Murder
10) Discharge Firearm with Intent
11) Use Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
They are all scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Thursday, June 19, 2014.
