On Friday, April 5, 2013, the Toronto Police Service Fugitive Squad, with the assistance of Interpol Ottawa and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, arrested Haim Amiram Cohen, 41, under authority of a Provisional Arrest Warrant - Extradition Act.
Haim Amiram Cohen has been wanted by authorities in Israel for Criminal Sexual Assault on a minor. The offences occurred between 1989 and 1993 against a 14-year-old girl.
He pled guilty to all the offences with which he was charged before allegedly fleeing Israel to avoid serving his sentence.
He is currently being held pending his extradition to Israel.
International cooperation between INTERPOL partners is crucial to supporting the Canadian law enforcement community and ensuring the security of Canadians at home and abroad, said Inspector Glenn Martindale, Director of RCMP INTERPOL Ottawa. The arrest of this individual would not have been possible without the help of our Liaison Office in Paris, the Israel National Police, Canada Border Services Agency, Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Toronto Police Service.
