Arrest made in investigation into Robbery of visually impaired man and two women, Deshayne Newman, 19

Police would like to thank the public for their assistance identifying a man wanted in three violent robberies.

On Monday, May 5, 2014, at approximately 5 p.m., a visually impaired man, 63, was walking through a part of Bridletowne Circle, in the Warden Avenue and Finch Avenue East area.

On Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 7:05 p.m., a woman, 33, was walking home from Bridletowne Mall, across 3131 Bridletowne Circle, with her young child.

It is alleged that:

- she was followed out of the mall by a man

- the man grabbed a gold chain from around her neck

- he fled the scene, running away

- a witness came to the aid of the woman and her child

On Sunday, May 11, 2014, at 3:06 p.m., a woman, 50, was crossing the intersection of Finch Avenue East and Middlefield Road.

It is alleged that:

- she was approached from behind by an unknown man

- the man grabbed a gold chain from around her neck and fled through a nearby park

- she gave chase and was able to take a picture of the man as he got into a car

- a passerby came to the aid of the woman

It is further alleged that:

- the man described in all of these incidents was identified through security camera video as Deshayne Newman, 19, of Toronto

- on Sunday, May 11, 2014, he was arrested for these robberies

- a search warrant was executed on his home and evidence relating to the robberies was recovered.

He has been charged with:

1) Robbery (three counts)
2) Fail to Comply with Probation (three counts)

On Monday, May 12, 2014, he made a court appearance in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East.
