On Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 7 p.m., Project O will award the participating youth with running shoes to mark the half-way point of the project.
Project O is a boot-camp-style fitness program where at-risk youth train with police officers to compete as a team in the Spartan Race final on Sunday, June 23 2013.
Spartan Race has partnered with "Project O" to host some 22 youth as part of a timed five-km extreme obstacle course which takes place at Hardwood Ski & Bike in Barrie, which drew over 10,000 participants and spectators in 2012.
Former US marine drill instructor Tony A, of Fit Factory Fitness, is leading the charge by whipping the team into shape using his challenging military-training methods.
Project O is proudly sponsored by Ryerson University and is funded by ProAction Cops & Kids, who support police programs for youth at risk. Snacks and beverages for the event will be generously provided by the Loblaws store at Maple Leaf Gardens.
Media are invited to attend Coca-Cola Court at The Mattamy Athletic Centre at 50 Carlton Street East on Thursday, April 4, 2013 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. At the conclusion of the workout, the youth will earn a pair of running shoes as a result of their commitment working up to the half-way point of the program.
