On Friday, March 29, 2013, at 5:34 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal-injury collision at Lakeshore Boulevard East near The Don Roadway.
It is reported that:
- a 17-year-old boy was driving a 2009 Acura MDX, with four passengers, eastbound on Lakeshore Boulevard East, approaching The Don Roadway
- the Acura struck the north curb of Lakeshore Boulevard East, crossed to the southside of Lakeshore Boulevard East, and went through the guard rail into Keating Channel
- the Acura then became submerged
- four of the five occupants were able to get out of the vehicle
- one occupant, a 16-year-old boy, was unable to free himself
- he was recovered by the Toronto Police Service Marine Unit approximately 40 minutes later
The 16-year-old boy was taken to thehospital where he was later pronounced dead.
