The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a threatening-death investigation.
It is alleged that:
- on Thursday, April 24, 2014, just before midnight, a man knocked on a random neighbour's door, in the Weston Road/Humber Road North area, and threatened the neighbour through the closed door
- when the neighbour refused to answer, the man attacked the door with a knife
- the neighbour called police but the man was gone when police arrived
- just after midnight, police responded to the same apartment building for an unknown trouble where it was reported a man was screaming
- when police located where the screaming was coming from, they knocked on the door to investigate
- a man, believed to be the same man who threatened the neighbour, opened the door
- when police attempted to arrest the man, he grabbed, and attempted to take, the officer's firearm from his holster, without success
- the man then spat at the officers, with the intent of communicating his disease to them, before he was eventually arrested
Courtney Carter, 23, of Toronto, is charged with:
1) two counts of Threatening Death
2) Weapons Dangerous
3) Mischief - Under ($5,000)
4) two counts of Assault Police
5) Disarming a Police officer
6) Assault Causing Bodily Harm
He was scheduled to appear in court at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Monday, April 28, 2014, at 10 a.m.
