Toronto Police Officer Assaulted at Large Gathering, Yonge and Dundas Square, Man Arrested and Criminal Charges Laid

The Toronto Police Service is enforcing the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).

On January 16, 2021, officers responded to a large gathering at Yonge and Dundas Square.

An officer was allegedly assaulted and a man has been arrested.

Conor Chappell, 22, has been charged with:

1. Assault Police Officer
2. Obstruct Police

The Toronto Police Service continues to respond to calls for large gatherings and will take steps to disperse. Police will issue tickets and summonses to individuals when there is evidence of non-compliance of the provincial order under the EMCPA and the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA).
