The Toronto Police Service, in partnership with the Toronto Transit Commission, today announced the results of a five-month investigation into counterfeit TTC Metropasses.
The investigation was launched in October 2013, and targeted those either using or trafficking counterfeit monthly Metropasses. Over the course of the investigation, 62 arrests were made and 196 criminal charges were laid, including:
- Fraud Under $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Uttering Forged Documents
- Possession of Proceeds of Crime
- Trafficking Forged Documents
The arrests were made across the city and involved all modes of transportation, such as buses and streetcars, as well as passes being used at subway stations.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The Toronto Police would like remind the public that TTC Metropasses should only be purchased from authorized retailers or from TTC facililties.
