On Monday, February 10, 2014, the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad arrested International Wanted Fugitive Cleus Ernest, 31, of St. Lucia.
He is currently wanted by the French authorities in Martinique for the attempted murder of a police officer.
It is alleged that:
- on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, warrants were executed involving a drug investigation in Martinique
- during the execution of one of the warrants, Cleus Ernest shot a police officer and was able to make good his escape
The investigation identified Ernest as the shooter, however he had already fled the island. In December 2013, the Toronto Police Fugitive Squad was contacted by French authorities who believed he was in Canada.
A subsequent investigation revealed that he was, in fact, in Toronto. He was arrested without incident in the Dufferin Street/Sheppard Avenue West area.
He is currently being held in custody pending extradition proceedings.
