Commercial Break and Enter Investigation, Two men arrested and charged

The Toronto Police Service would like to thank the community for their assistance with a commercial break in investigation which has led to two arrests, stolen property being recovered and a significant amount of charges being laid.

It is alleged that:

- beginning in early 2020, the St. Clair Avenue West corridor in 13 Division had seen an increase in overnight commercial break-ins

- the suspects generally smashed glass doors to gain entry and targeted the premises' cash registers, various electronic devices, lottery tickets and cigarettes

On Wednesday, March 11, 2020, in the early hours of the morning, uniform patrol officers from 13 Division received a call for a break and enter in-progress along St. Clair Avenue West. The officers made two arrests near the scene and recovered stolen property from several of the entries.

Further investigation into previous entries by 13 Division’s Major Crime Unit linked the two individuals to a large number of occurrences. Warrants were issued for both men.


On Friday, April 3, 2020, Hai Ong, 40, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. 14 counts of Break and Enter Commit
2. 15 counts of Fail to Comply Recognizance
3. Mischief Under $5000

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday, June 11, 2020, 2:15 p.m., room 116.


On Sunday, April 5, 2020, Jesus Valverde, 51, of no fixed address, surrendered to police and was arrested and charged with:

1. 18 counts of Break and Enter
2. 19 counts of Fail to Comply Probation
3. Mischief Under $5000

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Friday, June 26, 2020, 2 p.m., room 301.
