The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of several recent distraction thefts that have targeted seniors.
It is reported that:
- on all occasions, the victims were wearing the jewellery that was taken from them
- some involved the ruse of a hug or handshake
- some involved the ruse of giving them a gift of fake jewellery
- on all occasions, the thefts occurred in public
- some victims were approached on their driveways
- some victims were flagged down as they were walking in public
Police are asking anyone who may witness such a distraction theft to check on the well-being of the senior, and to call police.
