We announced earlier today that, yesterday, police officers had been conducting door-to-door canvasses in six high-rise apartment buildings where there was no power. Police evacuated approximately 50 residents, a number of them senior citizens, and took them to warming and reception centres.
We also said that we were working closely with the city's Emergency Operations Centre, Toronto Hydro, the TTC and TCHC to identify other apartment buildings without power, so further door-to-door canvasses can be conducted to identify vulnerable residents who require assistance.
See previous release.
Today, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., police officers will conduct door-to-door canvasses at the following five high-rise apartments:
- 410 McCowan Road
- 400 McCowan Road
- 375 McCowan Road
- 1735 Victoria Park Avenue
- 1739 Victoria Park Avenue
As with yesterday, the officers will be looking for vulnerable residents who require assistance and transportation to warming or reception centres.
