The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a Discharge Firearm investigation.
On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a 22-year-old man was in the area of Keele Street and Wilson Avenue area.
It is alleged that:
- the man was armed with a semi-automatic handgun
- the man robbed a 19-year-old man, who was shot and suffered a gunshot wound to the lower body
- the man fled
Officers from the West Command Gun Violence Suppression Unit commenced an investigation and located the man in a vehicle. Officers attempted to arrest the man.
It is alleged:
- the man fled the vehicle and pointed a black handgun at the officers as he ran
- the man discarded the handgun prior to his arrest
- while being arrested he was found in possession of cocaine
Officers immediately located the loaded 9mm caliber Glock semi-automatic handgun allegedly used in the shooting.
On Thursday, May 30, 2019, Jasathan Kandiah, 20, of Toronto was arrested. He is charged with:
1. Occupy motor vehicle with firearm (firearm)
2. Occupy motor vehicle with firearm (ammunition)
3. Possess Loaded Regulated Firearm
4. Use/Handle/Store Firearm Carelessly
5. Possess Firearm Other than Restricted or Prohibited Firearm without Holding a Licence (Firearm)
6. Possess Firearm Other Than Restricted or Prohibited Firearm Knowingly not Holding a Licence (firearm)
7. Unlicensed Person Possess Prohibited/Restricted Weapon (magazine)
8. Possess Prohibited/Restricted Weapon or Prohibited Device Knowing no Authority
(magazine)
9. Carry Concealed Weapon
10. Point a Firearm
11. Resist a Peace Officer
12. Possess Schedule I Substance for Trafficking
13. Breach of Probation
He is to appear at Old City Hall court on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at 2201 Finch Avenue West, at 10 a.m.
