The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a shooting investigation.
On Sunday, February 17, 2019, at approximately 2:27 a.m., police responded to a call for the Sound of Gunshots in the area of Danforth Avenue and Carlaw Avenue.
It is alleged that:
- two men became involved in a physical altercation inside a sports bar
- the fight continued outside of the address, onto Danforth Avenue
- one of the men involved pulled out a handgun and fired several shots into the bar before fleeing the area
Through investigation, the man was arrested a short time later. He has been identified as Joshua Maier-McKenzie, 25, of Toronto.
It is further alleged that:
- Maier-McKenzie is the person wanted in an Attempt Murder investigation involving a firearm
- the incident occurred on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, in the area of Sherbourne Street and Dundas Street East.
It is further alleged that:
- Maier-McKenzie was also wanted in relation to a Domestic Assault investigation, which occurred on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
He has been charged with:
1) Attempt Murder
2) Two counts of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
3) Two counts of Point Firearm
4) Careless Use of Firearm
5) Possess Loaded Firearm
6) Two counts of Possess Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
7) Possession Firearm Knowing Possession Unauthorized
8) Two counts of Discharge Firearm with Intent to Wound
9) Discharge Firearm being Reckless as to the Life or Safety of Another Person
10) Possession Prohibited Weapon
11) Two counts of Uttering Threats
12 Assault
13) Mischief to Property
He was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday, January 17, 2019, at Old City Hall, at 9 a.m.
