The Toronto Police Service Human Trafficking Enforcement Team commenced an investigation into a Human Trafficking occurrence.
It is alleged that:
- a man forced a 19-year-old woman to work in the sex trade
- the man forced the woman to take photographs of herself in certain degrees of undress
- the man posted the advertisements with the photos online
- the man forced the woman to turn over all the money earned to him
- the woman was trafficked by the man in Ontario and Quebec
- the woman was forced to abide by rules the man imposed
- the man gave the woman a quota that she was to meet each day
The man was wanted on a warrant for human trafficking. On Wednesday, January 16, 2019, the man was located by Montreal Police Service and arrested.
Kevin Barreau, 22, of Montreal is charged with:
1. Trafficking In Persons over 18
2. Material Benefit from Trafficking In Persons over
3. Procuring
4. Exercise Control
5. Advertising Another Person's Sexual Services
6. Uttering Threats
7. three counts of Fraud Under $5,000
8. two counts of Fraudulently Obtain Lodging
9. three counts of Use Credit Card Obtained by Offence
He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, January 19, 2019.
Police believe there are other victims.
Police would like to encourage all affected individuals to come forward and report Human Trafficking occurrences to police. We want to make sure that everyone has access to support services and an exit strategy, regardless of their decision to proceed criminally.

Victims can be men, women or children; can be Canadian citizens; and can be moved across local, provincial or national borders. They can be coerced through violence or the threat of violence against family and friends.
