On Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at 9:37 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Yukon Lane and Sheppard Avenue West.
It is alleged that:
− a 20-year-old man was driving a 1992 BMW 325, westbound on Sheppard Avenue West, approaching Yukon Lane
- a 24-year-old man was attempting to cross Sheppard Avenue West, from the north side to the south side, on the west side of the intersection, on a bicycle
- the cyclist was struck by the BMW, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene
- the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to Traffic Services for investigation
The driver has been charged with:
1. Dangerous driving causing death
2. Criminal negligence causing death
The driver has been identified as Aleksey Aleksev, 20, of Toronto. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, November 21, 2013, Toronto North Courts, 1000 Finch Avenue West, court room 301 at 10 a.m.
Police are also requesting that the six people who assisted the cyclist at the scene contact police.
