The Toronto Police Service's Diversity Management Unit and Ryerson University will be co-hosting a Coffee with Cops event on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., in the Alumni Lounge at the Mattamy Athletic Centre at the Gardens, at 50 Carlton Street.
Approximately 160 third-year students from Ryerson's "Policing in Canada" class, offered in connection with the Criminal Justice program, will have the opportunity to speak one-on-one with officers of various ranks and from various units about policing-related issues.
Students in the "Policing in Canada" class learn about the development of modern policing. They trace the historical process and examine the social and political context which has shaped policing. Students examine the role of police in the broader contexts of social control, governance, risk, and public safety and examine what policing in society means in practical terms.
Deputy Chiefs Mike Federico and Peter Sloly will be in attendance.
