The Toronto Police Service would like to advise the public of an arrest made in connection with a shooting.
On Thursday, September 12, 2013, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police were called to Leaside Park, in the Overlea Boulevard and Millwood Road area for reports of shots being fired.
In the course of their investigation, police located a man in the park who was later arrested and charged.
It is alleged that:
- the man was in contravention of a court-ordered recognizance
- he was in possession of a prohibited weapon and a round of .40 caliber ammunition
- he was in possession of a quantity of marijuana
53 Division officers called for assistance from members of Police Dog Services to help locate the firearm in question. Skye, a specially trained firearms detection dog, with the assistance of her handler, located a Glock automatic handgun in a treed area in the immediate vicinity of where police located the accused.
Abdul Banouri, 19, of Toronto has been charged with the following:
- cause disturbance by discharge of firearm
- firearm careless storage
- possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
- unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
- fail to comply with recognizance
- possession of marihuana
