On Monday, August 19, 2013, at 7:59 a.m., police responded to a personal injury collision at The Westway and Royal York Road.
It is reported that:
- a 23-year-old man was operating a 2011 Toyota Camry southbound on Royal York Road approaching The Westway
- a 60-year-old man was operating a 2009 Ford Escape eastbound on The Westway crossing Royal York Road in the curb lane, with a 39 year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle
- a 46-year-old man was operating 2012 Ford pick-up truck eastbound on The Westway in the passing lane
- the Toyota Camry entered the intersection and struck the Ford pick-up, the pick-up then struck the Ford Escape
- the Toyota Camry came to a rest on the centre median south of the intersection after striking the traffic control signal pole, the driver of the vehicle then attempted to flee the area and was apprehended a short time later,
The 60-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.
