On Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 7 p.m., celebrate with the Chief William Blair at The Boulevard Club, 1491 Lake Shore Boulevard as he congratulates students on their successful completion of the 2013 TPS S.A.I.L. program.
Canadian Olympic sailing competitor Brenda Bowskill, and representatives from the Royal Canadian Navy, ProAction Cops & Kids and Toronto District School Board and members of the Toronto Police Service Marine Unit will be in attendance.
The students and Olympians will hit the water in sailboats with instruction provided by Broad Reach Foundation for Youth Leaders. The media is invited to join the tour and watch as the kids sail away.
S.A.I.L., Self Awareness In Life, is a program geared to enhance youth development in leadership, teamwork, confidence/self-esteem and communication and has been created by members of 31 Division, the Marine Unit and community partners Broad Reach Foundation, Toronto District School Board, HMCS York and the National Yacht Club.
The participants, selected high school students, have been meeting every Wednesday since May 8, 2013, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., until Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
At the end of the program, the students will have been provided the opportunity to learn and demonstrate the skills required to operate a sailboat, build on teamwork, and qualify for their Pleasure Craft Operator's Card.
