Public awareness

Youth today are managing a variety of challenging issues and, while technology has certainly opened up new opportunities, it has also affected the lives of our youth in a way that no one could have ever imagined.

Youth need to understand that the online world is just that, a world. Similar to the "real world," the online world has its own set of safety concerns. There are people who use the internet as a means to exploit others. Parents/guardians need to take a proactive approach to help protect their children from online sexual exploitation.

There are a number of organizations that provide advice and assistance to youth who need a helping hand. Some of these organizations include; www.kidshelpphone.ca (1-800-668-6868), www.protectchildren.ca, www.cybertip.ca and www.needhelpnow.ca.

This project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
