Homicide #61/2017, 25 Henry Lane Terrace, Update, Victim identified, photograph released

On Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 12:31 a.m., officers responded to a call for the sound of gunshots at 25 Henry Lane Terrace.

The deceased has been identified as Mark Young, 52, of Toronto.

A post-mortem examination determined the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.

Missing man, Cabbagetown area, Kory Bryan, 28

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance locating a missing man.

On Sunday, December 17, 2017, Kory Bryan, 28, was reported missing. He has not been seen or heard from for at least two weeks. He is known to frequent the Cabbagetown area, near Gerrard Street East.

He is described as 5’10”, medium build, brown eyes, dyed blonde hair, spacers in his ears.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Sexual Assault Alert, Parliament Street and Dundas Streeet East area, Update, Man, 40, arrested, facing six charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in a Sexual Assault Investigation.

It is alleged that:

- in the early morning hours of Saturday, December 16, 2017, a girl, 17, and a woman, 18, met the male suspects at a nightclub in the King Street West and Spadina Avenue area

On Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 3:30 p.m., Banh La, 40, of Toronto, was arrested. He is charged with:

1) three counts of Sexual Assault
2) two counts of Forcible Confinement
3) Fail to Comply with Probation

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park on Monday, December 18, 2017, 10 a.m., room 501.

The Toronto Police Service requests assistance locating a missing man.

Bruno Cretaro, 78, was last seen on Friday, December 15, 2017, at 11:30 a.m., in the Wilson Avenue and Dallner Road area.

He is described as 5’6”, medium build, short white hair, wearing glasses. He was last seen wearing a blue winter jacket, black winter boots, Klondike winter hat with fur.

He was also last seen walking a small white dog on a leash.

Police are concerned for his safety.

Fatal collision #58/2017, Kingston Road and Guildwood Parkway

On Sunday, December 17, 2017, at 12:41 a.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Kingston Road and Guildwood Parkway.

It is reported that:

- a man, 52, was driving a 2004 Buick Rainier, eastbound on Kingston Road, approaching Guildwood Parkway

- for reasons not yet determined, the vehicle mounted the centre median between eastbound and westbound traffic, struck a light standard, then crossed to the south side of Kingston Road, mounting the curb, subsequently striking a fence, where the vehicle came to a rest

The driver received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced.

Police seek assistance identifying three suspects in Break-and-Enter investigation, Bay Street and Bloor Street West area, Security camera images of three suspects released

The Toronto Police Service is requesting assistance identifying three men in a Break-and-Enter investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at 4:48 a.m., three men broke into a jewelry store in the Bay Street and Bloor Street West area

- the men forced their way inside the store, using the front door, and smashed several display cases, stealing their contents

- they escaped with property estimated to be worth $500,000

The male suspects are described as:

Suspect #1: white, 5’10"-6’, large build, red-and-black multi-coloured winter jacket with hood, black hooded sweater, light-blue jeans, white Nike sneakers

Suspect #2: white, 5’7"-5’8", small build, camouflage jacket, black hoodie sweater, black-and-white baseball hat with white logo, black-and-white face mask, black Adidas sneakers with white soles

Suspect #3: white, 5’10"-6’ large build, leather jacket, blue-and-green plaid shirt, black hat, black balaclava, construction boots

Security camera images of the three suspects have been released.

Arrest in shooting investigation, Parkwoods Village Drive and Rayoak Drive, Man, 20, facing eight charges

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest in a shooting investigation.

On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at 9:47 p.m., officers responded to a call for a shooting in the Parkwoods Village Drive and Rayoak Drive area.

It is alleged that:

- during the late afternoon hours, a man attended an address in the Parkwoods Village Drive and Rayoak Drive area

- he left the area and returned during the evening hours in a vehicle, accompanied by four other occupants

- the man exited the vehicle and attended an address in an apartment building in the area where he obtained a satchel

- two other male occupants also exited the vehicle, but walked off in another direction

- when the man left the address, he approached the two males at which point he got into a physical altercation with one of them

- he then pulled a firearm from the satchel and discharged three rounds

- there were no injuries

Members of 32/33 Division started an investigation. On Friday, December 15, 2017, Mustafa Nantambu, 20, of Toronto, was arrested.

He has been charged with:

1) Discharge firearm with intent to wound endanger life
2) Careless use of firearm
3) Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
4) Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon
5) Possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing its possession is illegal
6) Carrying concealed weapon
7) two counts of Fail to comply recognizance

He was scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Saturday, December 16, 2017, 10 a.m., room 101.

Media advisory, Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Eglinton Square Shopping Centre (Food Court area), 1 Eglinton Square, 41 Division's Operation Jingle continues

Operation Jingle kicked off last Friday, as part of a 41 Division Holiday crime prevention initiative.

Due to the overwhelming response, officers will be re-attending Eglinton Square Shopping Centre, 1 Eglinton Square, (Food Court Area), on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Officers are taking a proactive approach to help prevent the occurrence of purse and wallet distraction-type thefts.

Distraction theft affects some of the most vulnerable people in our community, older women.

Festively named Operation Jingle, officers will be giving away little jingle bells to female shoppers, in particular seniors, to attach to their wallets. These bells are a simple yet effective way of helping alert women if someone is trying to steal their wallet.

Officers will be also be speaking to shoppers and raising awareness about distraction thefts and personal safety during the busy holiday period.

Fatal collision #59/2017, Eglinton Avenue West, west of Weston Road

On Monday, December 18, 2017, at 5:35 p.m., police responded to a call for a personal injury collision at Eglinton Avenue West, west of Weston Road.

It is reported that:

- a man, 65, was driving a 2014 Toyota Camry, westbound on Eglinton Avenue West, west of Weston Road

- a woman, 85, was attempting to cross Eglinton Avenue West, west of Weston Road

- the woman was struck by the vehicle

The woman received life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at 6 p.m., please join His Worship Mayor of Toronto Mayor John Tory, Youth in Policing Program Supervisor Nicole Norton, Board Member of the Toronto Police Services Board Ken Jeffers, and Chief of the Toronto Police Service Chief Mark Saunders, in Theatres 1 and 2 at the Toronto Police College, 70 Birmingham Street, as they congratulate 63 young people from across the city on graduating from our 2017 Youth in Policing Initiative Fall Program.

These students were assigned to various divisions and the Mounted Unit and gained job experiences and life skills through their work with the police officers and community members. They also had a chance to partake in several crime prevention initiatives, community events and training opportunities.

The Youth in Policing Initiative is part of the Government of Ontario’s Youth Opportunities Strategy. This Strategy is helping to build stronger communities by establishing and expanding community programs that help youth achieve a brighter future.

The young people in this program, aged 15-18, represented neighbourhoods throughout the city: Mount Olive-Silverstone-Jamestown, Thistletown-Beaumond Heighte, Elms-Old Rexdale, Victoria Village, Flemingdon Park, Thorncliffe Park, Regent Parks, West Hill, Woburn, Eglington East and Scarborough Village.

On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, as part of an investigation into the uploading of child sexual abuse images, members of Toronto Police Service Child Exploitation arrested Jason Banks, 32, of Toronto.

On Tuesday, December 19, 2017, Jason Banks, 32, of Toronto, was arrested at 55 Division.

He was charged with:

1) two counts of Make Child Pornography
2) Luring a Child for the Purpose of Facilitating the Offence of Invitation to Sexual Touching
3) Invitation to Sexual Touching
4) Luring a Child for the Purpose of Facilitating the Offence of Make Child Pornography
5) Sexual Assault

He was scheduled to appear in court at College Park, on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, 2 p.m., room 501.

On Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., at Toronto Police Service Traffic Services, at 9 Hanna Avenue, Invictus Games Toronto 2017 CEO Michael Burns, along with members of Invictus Games Team Canada, will recognize the motor squad officers who assisted with the Invictus Games.

Officers from the Toronto Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police will be in attendance with TPS Mount Invictus. Chief Mark Saunders will also provide remarks.
